The Black Soldier Fly
a sustainable path
to Food Security

Hivemind Industries is building the technology that will lead to food waste being considered a value stream, and putting an end to the devastating impact it has on our environment when it is sent to landfills to rot and pollute. Our Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae will recycle organic waste into:
Certified Organic Fertiliser
Probiotic superfood for plants which will improve soil health, activate natural plant defences and accelerate plant growth.
Sustainable & Nutritious Protein
Which can replace traditional feed sources in pet, pig, poultry and aquaculture diets.
We offer an integrated solution to reduce waste, lower costs and provide a more sustainable recovery. All while reducing greenhouse gases, tackling protein shortages, strengthening domestic supply chains and more.
Global Challenges
Food Security
1/3 of food is wasted annually with over 70% ending up on landfills.
With the world population set to reach 10 billion by 2050, innovative methods are required to reduce food waste.
Livestock Farming
Traditional Livestock Farming has a vast environmental footprint, representing 14.5% of all GHG emissions, accounting for 80% of all agricultural land use (producing less than 20% of the world's supply of calories).

The UN's Fertiliser Warning
A global fertiliser crunch is threatening to starve the planet (exasperated by The Russia-Ukraine Conflict) and has resulted in fertiliser prices rising by more than 300% in just over 24 months, which is set to continue.
Future of Food
People suffering from Food Insecurity is set to continue due to increased pricing and lack of availability.
Nearly 2.5 billion people do not have access to adequate food in 2022

The Problem
Linear Economy of Waste
The present cycle of organic waste is harmful to society, the economy and the environment. There are large, impactful costs associated with the current linear model of waste management and a solution is required.
Over 33% of the global food supply is wasted with over 70% ending up in landfills. This
process is harmful to the environment and has long lasting consequences across the economy and society as a whole.
Landfills are not a solution in the long run and recycling has mainly focused on non-organic waste. We must find a solution that is scalable and constant for the recycling of organic waste; one which provides many positive externalities globally.
The Solution
Circular Economy of Waste
Hivemind utilizes organic food waste collected from restaurants, hotels, and domestic households that would otherwise be dumped in landfills and uses it as food for Black Soldier Flies.
Protein derived from these insects is then manufactured into various protein-rich products.
This circular economy generates a positive impact on the environment and promotes recyclability.

End Products

Frass
Black Soldier Fly Frass is a type of insect frass, which is the excrement of the Black Soldier Fly larvae. It is an organic and sustainable fertilizer that is rich in nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, making it an excellent option for plant growth and soil health. It is often used in agriculture, horticulture, and aquaculture industries as a natural and eco-friendly alternative to chemical fertilizers.
Protein Meal
The Black Soldier Fly larvae are raised on organic waste, such as food scraps, and then harvested and processed into a protein-rich powder. This protein powder is a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional animal-based protein sources, as it has a much smaller environmental footprint and can be produced using fewer resources. It is often used in animal feed formulations, particularly for poultry and aquaculture, as it is high in essential amino acids and other nutrients.

Whole Dried Larvae
Whole Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae are the larvae of the Black Soldier Fly that have been dried and preserved. They are a highly nutritious and sustainable source of protein, fat, and fiber, and are often used as an ingredient in animal feed formulations. They are a popular alternative to traditional protein sources such as fishmeal and soybean meal, as they are more sustainable and eco-friendly to produce. Whole dried black soldier fly larvae can be fed to a variety of animals, including poultry, fish, and reptiles.
